High Wire Walks

The new film The Walk about wire walker Phillippe Petit tells the story of his walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre on August 7th 1974. He is inspiring the way he describes experiencing the joy of this feat, likening it to dancing. Almost touching the nearness if death heightens his experience. I wonder if the extreme limits of his choices on the wire paradoxically gave him more of a sense freedom. We can find it hard to achieve balance in life feeling like we are about to fall precariously into chaos. Indeed the concept of balance can often sound a dull concept but Phillippe’s example shows otherwise. Maybe it’s by accepting the possibility of the potential to fall and finding a way to live with it that makes us porous to the world and therefore alive.
